Skylight Types & What Our Installation Process Covers

Choosing the right skylight depends on the room, your roof structure, and how you want to use the added light. We work through those decisions with you before any cutting begins.

Fixed Skylights
Non-operable units that deliver natural light without ventilation. They’re the most common residential choice and the most straightforward to integrate into an existing roof system.

Vented Skylights
These open manually or electrically to allow airflow. They require additional sealing around the operable section and more complex flashing than fixed units, which is exactly where roofing experience matters.

Tubular Skylights
Also called sun tunnels, these channel daylight through a reflective tube into spaces where a standard skylight won’t reach. The roof footprint is smaller, but the dome and collar still need proper sealing to perform.

Our installation process covers every step: assessing your roof structure, rafter spacing, and sun orientation; selecting the right unit for the space; cutting and preparing the roof opening; installing step and counter flashing at the skylight curb; and securing the finished unit. Energy-efficient glazing options, including low-E coatings and insulated glass units, are available to reduce heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter. We use materials from trusted brands including Owens Corning, GAF, TAMKO, Mule-Hide, ABC, and DaVinci, and we provide detailed written reports on all completed work.
